Roy Welch was the driving force behind wrestling in Tennessee for many decades. While Roy played the silent parner to Nick Gulas' tyrant, the truth was that behind the scenes, Roy was the guy calling the shots. For the first half of the 20th century, the entire Welch family was a legendary in wrestling as any had ever been. Roy Welch is the man who originally placed Christine Jarrett over the Memphis end of the Gulas-Welch territory. Later, Roy Welch was the man who placed Jerry Jarrett over the Memphis end of the Gulas-Welch territory. The Memphis fans owe a great debt of gratitude to Roy Welch.
