In the late 1950s, Wicks was as popular in Memphis as Elvis Presley. As hated as Sputnik Monroe was, the fans needed someone to get behind and Wick was the man. Trained in the old carny circuit, Wicks was old school and could roll you into a pretzel in 30 seconds. The Joker had Batman, Lex Luthor had Superman and Sputnik Monroe had Billy Wicks.
